End of Semester and Year Activities

Page history last edited by Felicia Booker 12 years, 2 months ago

The end of the semester is a great time to review accomplishments, to give praise, and to set goals. Consider using some of the WICR strategies on this webpage to bring your semester to an engaging and meaningful end.

No-Name Calling Week. January 23-27is an annual week of educational activities aimed at ending name-calling of all kinds and helping schools launch an ongoing dialogue about ways to eliminate bullying and anti-LGBT bias.

Writing

This is a list of ideas for end of the semester/year activities.

1.  Stand at the door and shake each student’s hand. Tell them you were glad they were in your class and you wish them luck next year/semester.

2.  Have students gather all major papers and other work and put them in folder in chronological order. Add a table of contents and a review page. The review page should evaluate the work noting positive and negative aspects of the work.

3.  Write a letter to incoming students. The letter should give advice on how to be successful in this class, how to plan study time, how to get along well with the teacher, explain any potential problem areas in the class, what to look forward to, and overall encouragement to the newbies.  http://freeology.com/articles/ways-to-end-the-semester/

4. Tell the students that they are now experts on how to be successful in their grade level. Then brainstorm with them the things they’ve learned and subjects they’ve studied.

5.  After the discussion, have them write a letter to the students of next year’s class telling them what to look forward to and what to watch out for.   Have them relay their favorite moments and subjects of the year.

6.  This lesson helps review the year and makes students feel a real sense of accomplishment when they realize they have completed the requirements for their grade level.

8.  Then next year pull them out and read to the new students the advice of last year’s class.
